Announcing SONET/SDH-Displacement Survey

   We have been searching for reliable information about what is preventing Carrier Ethernet technology from completely displacing the SONET/SDH transport at the edge service providers’ networks.  So far, we have been unable to find a comprehensive study.  So we decided to find out for ourselves. 
   
   As the demand for advanced business IP and Carrier Ethernet services increases, service providers are transitioning their networks to eliminate the legacy TDM infrastructure that was optimized around voice services.  In recent years, Carrier Ethernet has evolved to the point that it is actively under consideration as THE next-generation technology at the network edge.  However, there are still unresolved issues that are preventing Carrier Ethernet from taking over for SONET/SDH in all applications. 
   
   Later this week Carrier Ethernet News, in conjunction with sponsor Overture Networks, will launch the first ever SONET/SDH Displacement Survey.  This is a 10 question survey that can be completed in less than 5 minutes.  We will publish the results in a series of articles on Carrier Ethernet News and in a comprehensive report that we will make available for download – Free.
   
   In this survey, we will explore the obstacles facing service providers as they look to transition their network infrastructure to Carrier Ethernet and identify the most important of these obstacles and what can be done about them.
